My Portfolio

Final Year Project

My project focuses on writing a research paper based on the historical significance of the Akai MPC sampler. These compositions craeted then employ the production techniques utilized by influential producers of the past known for incorporating the MPC in their production rocess, such as, J Dilla and Q-Tip.

This composition created on the MPC, inspired by J Dilla's manipulation of 'old-school' soul samples.

This composition entitled 'Please' samples Nancy Holloway's rendition of 'Hurt So Bad' released in 1970. Produced entirely on the MPC sampler and mixed in FL Studio.

Music Production for TUS Final Year Project

I am also currently assisting TUS student Ciara McCabe in her Final Year Animation Project. I am required to complete a score for the animation guided by Ciara's creative vision. The music for this project is in the early stages of completion.

This composition was created on FL Studio, and is my initial idea for the purple and red scenes below, trying to portray 'High Intenity Dramatic Music' and 'Slightly Less Dramatic Music'.

Music App

I have also incorporated my creativity and passion for music into the development of a mock up app, in collaboration with Daragh Meaney and Callum McGrath. This app uses the users heartbeat data to play songs of a similar tempo. Increasing the users likeability to stay in their desired Heart Rate range, this can be utilised for heart beat training zones. This app can also be adjusted to match tempo of a song to a runners preferred cadence.

These productions were created in Ableton using the 'Arcade' plugin. A visual representation of heart rate/cadence would also be incorporated by a wearable which has three LED's. Each LED showing if the user needs to speed up, slow down, or stay at their current pace. The LED's were coded using Arduino IDE. Max Msp was used to receive the heartrate data and send a bang to play a specific song relevant to the BPM.

This is an example of the circuit diagram created for the LED's.
